The Big One

Last month I posed the question, “Will it snow again?”…

It wasn’t really a question, but more of a conversation starter…

By the way, the answer was yes then and it’s yes now.

It’s going to snow and snow quite a lot this weekend. Good news it’s a weekend storm for most. Impacts won’t be a high with less traveling. However, it will still be a big one. One to two feet for a large area in the Northeast. Time to do preparations. We won’t be seeing grass again until Late March or April…maybe later if the pattern turns snowy through the end of Winter like it’s supposed to. Buckle up, Winter, “Real” Winter is coming…

Best,
Jason

Will it snow again?

Yes, people ask me this question and with the warm temps lately it’s a valid topic to bring up…

The better question is when…

The polar vortex experts are documenting a SSW or sudden stratospheric warming happening right now…
That normally means we get colder and stormier weather in Europe and the East Coast of the U-S.

All the pieces need to come together for blockbuster snow storms along the East Coast. Cold air, an active southern part of the jet stream (preferably phased with the northern Jet) and blocking over Greenland would help, too. A ridge building out west in the Pacific northwest with an amplified trough in the east. These are some of the big ingredients needed for the “big one”…

The foundation is starting to come together for that to happen in Jan-Feb…possibly into March.

I’ll be tracking it everyday…see you in the next broadcast..

Nor'easter...

The midweek Nor’easter is going to surprise many people. It has high bust potential. The computer models will not do a good job with it at all. There are just too many variables with this storm. Some will get snow, others will get ice, a lot will get plain rain. A cold rain at that. It will be one to watch. It will cause major travel issues for sure. I’ll be watching…

Lake Effect Snow!

Quick post about the Lake Effect snow bands coming off Lake Erie today…western NY is getting quite a bit of snow and that will continue. Even the snow squalls moving across the Northeast have potential to make it farther than usual with the strong wind and moisture moving through with an upper level low to the north.

Enjoy the Winter Preview!
